David Hackett Souter is Sixty-Eight years old and was appointed in 1990 by George H.W. Bush, succeeding William J. Brennan. He grew up in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Upon graduation from Concord High School, he was voted “most likely to succeed” and “most sophisticated”. Wikipedia says that he started out voting on the conservitive side, but now is considered to be part of the “liberal wing” of the court, while oyez.org/justices/david_h_souter makes him out to have a wacky voting record, often inciting anger among liberals and conservatives alike. From what I’ve read (supremecourthistory.org/myweb/justice/souter.htm) Souter seems to be very pro free speech.
